First Nation School Board by-election: Applications to vote now open

First Nation School Board (FNSB) electors can apply now to vote in the by-election to fill one vacant trustee position. Polls close on Monday, February 12 at 8 PM.

Registration and application details:

  • Registration and applications: Now Open
  • Deadline to apply to vote by mail: Monday, February 5 at 12 noon
  • Deadline to apply to vote by internet: Monday, February 12 at 7 PM

How to apply:
Electors are encouraged to take advantage of the early registration period by submitting their application and a copy of their ID online at ElectionsYukon.ca.

Candidate nominations:
Candidate nominations will open on Thursday, January 18. Nomination packages can be downloaded from ElectionsYukon.ca.

Eligibility criteria:
To vote or be a candidate in the by-election, electors must be Canadian citizens at least 18 years old and either:

  • the parent of a student attending a FNSB-operated school OR
  • a member (or entitled to be a member) of a Yukon First Nation, has an ancestral language that is a Yukon First Nation language and has been a resident of the Yukon for at least three months.

Voting options:
Voting in the by-election will be exclusively by mail and by internet. There will be no in-person voting option.

KEY DATES IN THE FIRST NATION SCHOOL BOARD BY-ELECTION

 

  • Monday, January 15: Open of applications to vote
    Applications are open to vote by mail or by internet. Early registration is to support the mailing of voting packages to electors who wish to vote by mail.

 

  • Thursday, January 18: Notice of nominations
    Candidate nomination forms can be submitted to Elections Yukon.

 

  • Thursday, February 1 at noon: Close of nominations
    If one or more nominations are received, a poll will be held.

 

  • Friday, February 2: Voting period starts
    Electors who applied to vote by internet will be emailed a PIN and link to the voting portal.

 

  • Monday, February 5 at noon: Application period closes for vote by mail
    This is to accommodate mail delivery times. Ballots must be received by Elections Yukon by the close of polls to be counted.

 

  • Monday, February 12 at 7 PM: Application period closes for vote by internet
    This is to allow application approvals and time for electors to vote before the close of polls.

 

  • Monday, February 12 at 8 PM: Close of polls
    All ballots must be received by Elections Yukon to be counted.
